The latest activism of the zero plastic national movement.

The latest activism of the zero plastic national movement.

On June 25, 2022, zero plastic volunteers, who love nature and are constantly committed to the protection of nature, organized a beach cleanup project and awareness program on the “Moya” beach in Negombo. One team of zero plastic volunteers worked hard to clean up the moya beach, which was littered with decaying and non-perishable waste, and another team of volunteers carried out an extensive awareness campaign to educate the people of the surrounding villages about the ill effects of plastic use. It is noteworthy that this project was launched under the auspices of the church father in the moya beach village and under the full patronage of star garment. It is also pleasing to note that more than 80 zero plastic volunteers from all over the island are involved in this program.

Negombo beach is beautiful, attractive, nice beach but When we went there we saw the beach was polluted with many garbage. This is due to the fact that people who come and go there, knowingly or unknowingly, have dumped large quantities of non-perishable waste, including plastics, which can cause serious damage to the seashore. Plastic, shopping bags, sandals, lunch sheets, bottles, fishing gear and many other things were among the rubbish. However, zero plastic volunteers worked hard to remove the debris from the beach, manage it properly, and restore the mayo beach to a more beautiful beach.

Zero plastic volunteers were also able to raise awareness among the people of this coastal village about the dangers of plastics to the environment, how harmful they can be to themselves and how serious the pollution caused by plastics is. The Zero Plastic Group has also set up a large landfill to dispose of coastal wastes. In addition, a children’s club was set up in the village to gather children and direct them directly to waste management. Zero Plastic Group is committed to continuing to focus on this Negombo beach cleanup & awareness project, which has been so successful so far, and to continue to do so without interruption.
