Eco Flow ‘ 24

Eco Flow ’24, was successfully completed on the 8th of September 2024 at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya premises; renowned for its rich cultural and historical significance, Kelaniya Temple served the perfect backdrop for a successful event.

The project was a collaborative project conducted by the ZeroPlastic Unit of CINEC Campus and the Leo Club of Mount Lavinia Orient Centennial. The initiative was to bring together volunteers from diverse backgrounds who commit towards environmental stewardship and thus contribute to a sustainable, greener and an ecofriendly planet.

Students actively participated in a cleanup, which was regarded as the cornerstone of the event. A team of enthusiastic individuals armed with gloves and trash bags committed their one hundred percent to make the sacred temple premises more breathable and cleaner.

In turn an insightful session was conducted for the Kelaniya Dhamma School students regarding the impact created by single use plastics on the environment and the ways and means of mitigating them. Students were educated on the small things that they could contribute in making their environment greener and cleaner. They were actively engaged in recommending sustainable solutions on how to reduce plastic waste and thus contribute in creating a more sustainable surrounding.

The success of this event provided a testament to root efforts in environmental and sustainability. On the other hand, it exemplified on the power of engagement to combat and address environmental challenges. It called in action for individuals to rise up and stand against plastic pollution.

As we move on, let us carry the lessons learnt and the spirit of stewardship to create a more sustainable future for more generations to come.
