Punchi Haritha Sihina 2.0 brought plastic awareness to young school students through an interactive and creative programme organized by ZeroPlastic volunteers. The session included a presentation on plastic awareness, followed by a hands-on creative activity where school students worked with custom worksheets featuring eco-friendly slogans such as “Save our planet.” Volunteers also hosted a storytelling session using visual posters, centred on a nature-protecting hero, and wrapped up the programme with eco-themed songs to keep the energy high. By combining learning with creativity and storytelling, the programme made environmental awareness accessible and enjoyable for younger audiences. Activities like these help introduce plastic awareness early and encourage school students to think about the world around them. SATHKARA’2026 brought together environmental conservation and cultural heritage across two days of volunteer-led action during the annual Rathnapura Sri Maha Saman Devala Randoli Perahera on 29th and 30th July 2026. On the first day, ZeroPlastic volunteers carried out a cleanup campaign along the roads and surrounding areas ahead of the Randoli Perahera, collecting and removing plastic waste to create a cleaner environment for devotees and visitors. On the second day, the team organized a Sisil Pan Dansala, offering free refreshments to pilgrims and participants while encouraging eco-friendly practices throughout the event. The project reflected a commitment to protecting Sri Lanka’s cultural traditions in harmony with nature, reducing plastic pollution during one of the country’s valued religious and cultural celebrations, and raising environmental awareness among the public.
