ZeroPlastic Movement Hosts Leadership Workshop at Ananda Central College Elpitiya
The Professional Development Avenue of the ZeroPlastic Movement, University of Kelaniya, conducted the third phase of its Levelup project on 16 October 2026 at Ananda Central College, Elpitiya. The Creative Thinking and Leadership Workshop was designed to support the development of leadership abilities, creative thinking, problem-solving skills, and self-confidence among school students.
The project was organized to provide Advanced Level students and school leaders with practical knowledge and awareness in areas related to critical thinking, leadership, and personal development. The session also sought to promote the ZeroPlastic concept, environmental sustainability, and responsible community participation among young people.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Malith Induranga, Assistant Lecturer in ICT at the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The session featured interactive discussions, practical examples, and real-world scenarios that allowed school students to explore the importance of creative and critical thinking alongside leadership principles. A notable component of the project was the official launch of the “Beyond the Ink” pen-bin initiative, which encourages the responsible disposal and collection of used pens.
Over 500 participants took part in the project, primarily comprising Advanced Level students and school leaders at Ananda Central College. Participation certificates were distributed to attendees at the conclusion of the session.
The workshop provided school students with exposure to ideas around leadership, problem-solving, and environmental responsibility in a structured and interactive setting. By combining personal development content with the promotion of environmentally conscious habits, the project addressed both individual growth and community-level awareness among young participants.
