ZeroPlastic Community Holds Punchi Haritha Sihina 3.0 at Open University Preschool
The ZeroPlastic Community of The Open University of Sri Lanka held Punchi Haritha Sihina 3.0 on 12 October 2026 at Supipi Preschool, located at The Open University of Sri Lanka, Nawala. The project was the third installment of the Punchi Haritha Sihina initiative, designed to introduce environmental awareness to young children through age-appropriate activities.
The project was organized with the aim of helping preschool children understand the importance of protecting the environment and encouraging them to adopt environmentally responsible habits from an early age. By reaching children at a formative stage, the initiative sought to nurture curiosity about the natural world and build an early foundation for environmental responsibility.
During the programme, ZeroPlastic volunteers carried out interactive activities tailored for preschool-aged children. The activities were designed to be engaging and accessible, allowing the young participants to learn about environmental care through hands-on and meaningful experiences suited to their age group.
The children at Supipi Preschool took part in the programme’s activities, which provided them with an opportunity to engage with environmental themes in a practical and enjoyable way. The session offered the young participants a chance to connect with ideas around caring for their surroundings through learning experiences shaped for early childhood.
Projects such as Punchi Haritha Sihina 3.0 reflect the value of introducing environmental concepts to children at an early stage. By making environmental education accessible and engaging for young learners, the initiative contributed to broader efforts aimed at building awareness and responsibility among future generations within the university’s surrounding community.
