A beautiful step towards a greener future was taken on June 2nd, Danthure Central College became a place of hope as the ZeroPlastic University of Peradeniya successfully held the රුක් රෝපණ සෙවණ tree planting programme. This project brought everyone together to protect nature and help the earth breathe greener.

 

The lovely morning started at 8:00 AM. Before beginning the main event, everyone joined together for a peaceful religious activity. A respected Thero led the gathering to observe ‘Pansil,’ giving a calm and blessed start to this meaningful day.

 

After the blessings, it was time to get our hands in the soil, With great teamwork, we planted more than 50 valuable plants, including Margosa, Mango, and Lime trees. The planting was first started by the respected Thero, the Principal, the Vice Principal, and the school Teachers. Next, the ZeroPlastic University Coordinators Julia Wijetunga, Vidara Subodhini, and Nadeesha Madushani happily planted their trees. Finally, the school students joined in with big smiles, taking responsibility for their environment and planting the rest of the trees.

 

This amazing day was made possible through the hard work and love of our Organizing Committee. A huge thank you goes to the Project Chair, Nadeesha Madushani for her wonderful leadership and excitement. We also want to send a heartfelt thank you to all the other amazing OC members for their time, energy, and dedication. Your teamwork made this project a true success.

 

By planting these more than 50 trees, ZeroPlastic UoP and Danthure Central College have planted a beautiful hope for tomorrow. It shows that when university students and school children join hands, creating a healthy and green world is truly possible.
