Plastic pollution has become one of the most critical environmental challenges faced by the world today. To address this issue and inspire positive environmental change, the ZeroPlastic Club of NDT – University of Moratuwa organized a creative street drama awareness campaign titled “Voices Beyond Plastic” in Kottawa Town.
The project was designed to educate the public about the harmful effects of plastic waste while encouraging sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyles. Unlike traditional awareness campaigns, this initiative used street drama to communicate environmental messages in an engaging, emotional, and memorable way.
Student volunteers performed a powerful drama that portrayed real environmental problems caused by excessive plastic use. The performance highlighted pollution in waterways, damage to wildlife, blocked drainage systems, and the long-term impact of plastic waste on human health and ecosystems. The drama successfully captured the attention of the public and encouraged people to think critically about their daily habits.
One of the most inspiring aspects of the project was the active involvement and dedication of the organizing committee and volunteers. Students worked together to plan the event, prepare the script, organize logistics, and engage with the community. The project demonstrated the importance of youth involvement in environmental activism and social responsibility.
The campaign received positive responses from the public, with many individuals appreciating the creativity and message behind the performance. Audience members were encouraged to reduce single-use plastics, recycle responsibly, and contribute towards protecting the environment.
“Voices Beyond Plastic” was more than just a street drama – it was a movement to inspire awareness, responsibility, and action. Through initiatives like this, the ZeroPlastic NDT Club continues to prove that small actions and strong voices can create meaningful change for the future of the planet.
