විවෘතාභිමානි 2026 Oral Competition by ZeroPlastic Open University of Sri Lanka

The විවෘතාභිමානි 2026 All-Island Inter-School Oratory Competition, organized by the ZeroPlastic Community of the Open University of Sri Lanka, successfully brought together young speakers from across the country to showcase their public speaking talents while advocating for important environmental and social causes.

The competition was held on 16th and 17th May 2026 at Janadipathi Balika Vidyalaya, Nawala, with the participation of more than 75 students representing over 25 schools from across Sri Lanka. The event provided a valuable platform for students to express their perspectives, develop communication skills, and engage in meaningful discussions on issues that impact society and the environment.

Participants competed in both Junior and Senior Sinhala Oratory Categories, delivering speeches on carefully selected environmental and social themes. Through their presentations, students demonstrated critical thinking, creativity, confidence, and a deep understanding of contemporary challenges affecting communities and the natural environment.

Beyond being a competition, විවෘතාභිමානි 2026 served as an educational initiative that encouraged young people to become advocates for positive change. The event promoted the values of the ZeroPlastic Movement by inspiring participants to reflect on environmental responsibility, sustainability, and the importance of taking action against issues such as plastic pollution.

The competition also helped participants strengthen essential life skills including public speaking, leadership, argument development, and effective communication. These skills will not only support their academic growth but also empower them to become future leaders capable of influencing positive social and environmental transformation.

Introducing the ZeroPlastic Commitment Standard – the world’s first certification focused solely on refusing and reducing single-use plastics.
