Green Step – Phase 1.2

Green Steps Phase 1.2 Successfully Conducted

Green Steps Phase 1.2, a Dhamma School Awareness Program, was successfully conducted at Pabbatharama Purana Viharaya, Ihala Witiyala, Karagoda Uyangoda, with the participation of around 80–100 students. The program was held from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. with the objective of creating awareness among students about plastic pollution and environmental protection.

During the program, students were educated about the harmful effects of plastic waste on the environment and the importance of adopting eco-friendly habits in their daily lives. The awareness session was conducted in an interactive and engaging manner through discussions, presentations, and educational games, encouraging active participation from the students.

Eco-friendly pens were distributed among the students to promote sustainable practices and environmentally responsible behavior. In addition, a tree planting activity was conducted together with the temple’s Nayaka Thero, symbolizing the importance of protecting nature and creating a greener future.

The success of this program was made possible through the dedication and teamwork of all organizing committee members and volunteers including Chanchala Nimesh, A.K. Samuditha, M.A.M. Nesani, Dinuka Chandeepa, Ruwani Jayathilaka, D.M.S.A. Disanayaka, D.M. Dhammika Ruwan, Dinew Newmika Wettasinghe, O.L.P Dhananjana, Lakshan Fernando, Duminda Sampath, Vihanga Nimsara, Dulshan Navodya, Chathurangani Weerakoon, Oshini Imasha, Sanduni Gimhani, Samasha Methmi, and A.V.S.L. Karunathilake.

Overall, the program was successfully completed and helped create positive environmental awareness among students while encouraging them to take responsibility for protecting the environment and building a cleaner and greener future.
