Green Force 2026 – Phase 02 by ZeroPlastic University of Colombo

The ZeroPlastic Colombo Community successfully conducted “Green Force 2026 – Phase 02” on May 6th, 2026, at Ambathale Samudradevi Balika Vidyalaya. The initiative was designed to educate school students about the growing issue of plastic pollution while inspiring environmentally responsible behaviors and sustainable lifestyles.

The awareness session was led by a dedicated team, who engaged enthusiastic students in interactive discussions about the global plastic crisis. The program encouraged students to actively participate, share ideas, and reflect on how plastic pollution affects both local communities and the wider environment.

Throughout the session, students were introduced to several important environmental topics, including the harmful impacts of plastic on human health and wildlife, the growing threat of microplastics entering the food chain, and the practical application of the 3R concept, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. These discussions helped students understand the urgent need for sustainable habits and responsible waste management practices.

To provide practical and inspiring examples, participants were also introduced to several successful initiatives conducted by the ZeroPlastic Colombo Community, including the “Harithabhisheka” and “Thuru” projects. These examples demonstrated how youth-led environmental action can create meaningful and lasting change within communities.

A major highlight of the initiative was the official establishment of a student-led ZeroPlastic Community within the school. By appointing a student board of directors, the project ensured that environmental awareness and sustainability efforts would continue to grow within the school community long after the session concluded.
