ChitChat 2.0 Brings Members Together for an Engaging May Meetup

ChitChat Monthly Meetup 2.0, the May edition of the ChitChat series organized by ZeroPlastic Kelaniya, was successfully held with strong participation from members. The event was organized under the guidance of the Executive Board, with Project Head Shashini Ayodhya and Event Coordinators Indumini Bandara and Isuri Gamage leading the organizing team.

The meetup created an engaging space for members to connect, interact, and actively take part in discussions. The session began with ice breaker activities that helped participants build connections and feel comfortable. Members then engaged in discussions, shared ideas, and received updates on ongoing ZeroPlastic initiatives.

A key highlight of the event was the guest speech by Romani Boteju, Former Assistant Secretary of ZeroPlastic at the Open University. Her session provided practical guidance on improving project ideas and encouraged members to think more creatively about future environmental initiatives.

The project targeted active members, newly registered members, and the Executive and Director Boards, helping new members integrate while strengthening relationships within the club. Around 30 members directly benefited from the session through networking, peer learning, and open knowledge sharing.

ChitChat 2.0 was conducted with the support of the ZeroPlastic Movement and the University of Kelaniya, reflecting strong collaboration between student teams and institutional partners.

The impact of the project was seen in increased engagement, improved communication, and stronger teamwork among members. It also enhanced awareness of zero plastic practices and encouraged responsible behavior. The meetup further strengthened commitment towards sustainability and helped align future projects with the goals of the ZeroPlastic movement.

Introducing the ZeroPlastic Commitment Standard – the world’s first certification focused solely on refusing and reducing single-use plastics.
