හරිම නැකත හරිත නැකත

The project “හරිම නැකත හරිත නැකත” stands as a meaningful environmental initiative carried out by the ZeroPlastic Club, University of Ruhuna, in line with the spirit of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. This project was designed to inspire individuals to reconnect with nature through tree planting while promoting environmental sustainability and responsible behavior within communities across Sri Lanka.

The initiative was successfully implemented through both digital and on-ground activities. People from different parts of the country actively participated by planting bamboo, flowering plants, ornamental plants, and fruit plants, and sharing photographs of their efforts. These contributions were published through official social media platforms, creating a strong digital movement that encouraged others to take part and raised awareness about the importance of protecting the environment.

Alongside the digital campaign, a physical activity was also carried out at the Faculty of Technology, University of Ruhuna. Plants, including bamboo, were planted in garden area. These locations were specifically selected to address issues related to improper waste disposal and to promote a cleaner and greener environment among students. This effort symbolized not only environmental care but also a shift towards responsible daily practices within the university premises.

The success of this project was largely due to the commitment and enthusiasm of the volunteers who contributed their time, skills, and effort throughout the process. Their collective dedication played a key role in organizing, promoting, and executing the activities effectively. The volunteers who contributed to this initiative include D.M. Dhammika, H.M.H.K. Herath, V.G.N.K. Welegedara, T.D. Sampath, U.A.N.G. Thanoj, A.G.S.P. Weerasinghe, K.M.T.K. Jayawardhana, H.M.S.V. Thilakarathna, B.A.C.N. Maduwantha, S.A.S.S.S. Arachchi, R.W.R. Lakshika, Himashi Anjala, Shehani Kavindya, and Nethmi Nadeera. Their teamwork and passion ensured that the project reached a wide audience and achieved its intended impact.

Through this initiative, participants were not only encouraged to plant trees but also to understand their role in preserving the environment. The project helped to strengthen community engagement while increasing awareness about sustainable practices and the importance of reducing environmental harm.

Overall, “හරිම නැකත හරිත නැකත” reflects a successful effort in combining cultural significance with environmental action. It highlights how collective volunteer contributions can create a positive impact, inspiring communities to take small but meaningful steps toward a greener and more sustainable future.
