ZeroPlastic Club Launched at Edith Cowan University – Colombo Center

The ZeroPlastic Movement officially expanded its network of university-based sustainability clubs with the launch of the ZeroPlastic Club at Edith Cowan University (ECU), Colombo Center.

The newly formed club will be led by Ms. Dehansa Dewlini, who takes on the role of President. Under her leadership, the ECU club aims to inspire and mobilize students to engage in impactful environmental projects focused on reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable practices within the campus and surrounding communities.

The launch event was held at the university premises and featured a keynote address by Mr. Nishshanka de Silva, Founder of the ZeroPlastic Movement. The event also welcomed distinguished guests including Dr. Helen Klaebe, General Manager of ECU, and Dr. Vipula Wanigasekara, Advisor to the ZeroPlastic Movement, who offered their support and insights into the growing need for youth-led sustainability efforts.

The establishment of the ZeroPlastic Club at ECU Colombo marks another step forward in the Movement’s mission to build a global volunteer force that champions responsible production, consumption, and plastic reduction. University clubs play a key role in driving this mission by creating opportunities for students to lead projects, build awareness, and influence behavioral change.

The ZeroPlastic Movement extends its congratulations to the ECU Colombo team and looks forward to seeing their contributions toward a more sustainable and plastic-responsible future.

About ZeroPlastic Clubs

ZeroPlastic Clubs are volunteer-driven groups established in educational institutions across Sri Lanka and internationally. Each club is student-led and supported by a faculty advisor, working under the broader framework of the ZeroPlastic Movement to implement at least three impactful projects annually.
