‘Green Haputhale ‘ towards a green Haputhale.

In the 24.25 term, the Green Haputhale Climate Action 1.0 project was launched with a clear mission by ZeroPlastic Community at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka – to create a clean and sustainable environment around the Haputhale town, a renowned tourist destination. Recognizing the direct impact of a well-maintained environment on the country’s economy through increased tourism, this community-driven initiative set out to make a tangible difference.

On March 17th, 2024, the project reached a profound milestone as over 50 dedicated volunteers gathered around the Haputhale railway station to participate in the cleanup efforts. This collaborative endeavor was made possible with the steadfast support of the Haputhale Municipal Council, Haputhale Railway Station, and the Haputhale Police Station.

The volunteers worked tirelessly to collect and properly dispose of the accumulated waste, transforming the once cluttered areas into a clean and welcoming environment. This collective effort not only beautified the town but also instilled a sense of pride and ownership among the local community, fostering a deeper appreciation for the importance of environmental stewardship.
