In a compelling effort to bridge art and environmental consciousness, the ZeroPlastc NISD Community recently hosted the “Siyane Siththara Warnabhisheka” art exhibition. This initiative aimed to highlight the urgent need for sustainable living through the expressive power of art. The event, held at the new building of NISD, brought together artists, students, and environmental enthusiasts in a celebration of creativity and ecological advocacy.
The primary goal of the Siyane Siththara Warnabhisheka art exhibition was to raise awareness about environmental issues and inspire actionable change. The exhibition showcased artworks that delved into themes such as renewable energy, biodiversity conservation, waste reduction, and climate change mitigation. Each piece aimed to educate viewers on the importance of sustainability and provoke reflection on individual and collective responsibilities towards the environment.
The project was spearheaded by Project Head Buddhika Jeewantha, with Deputy Project Head Salitha Senevirathna and a dedicated team of coordinators and delegates. The organizing committee commenced their preparations on March 17, 2024, by drafting the project proposal and forming the committee. The NISD premises were finalized as the venue on the same day. Subsequent days were devoted to raising awareness among students, collecting art submissions, and meticulously decorating the venue.
On the day of the exhibition, March 27, 2024, the venue was a vibrant display of artistic interpretations of a sustainable future. The exhibition featured high-quality images that visually narrated the story of environmental stewardship. The audience included a diverse mix of students, faculty, policymakers, and community members, all of whom engaged in meaningful dialogues about sustainable practices.
