EcoFrames 2025: A Vision for a Greener Future Through Storytelling

EcoFrames 2025, the highly anticipated short film competition organized by ZeroPlastic University of Peradeniya, concluded on a successful note, celebrating creativity, environmental awareness, and student engagement.

This year’s competition centered on inspiring university students to produce short films that reflect pressing environmental issues, such as plastic pollution, sustainability, and conservation. By combining the art of storytelling with the urgency of ecological action, EcoFrames 2025 aimed to spark meaningful change and amplify the vision of a plastic-free future.

The winners of EcoFrames 2025 were announced after a rigorous evaluation process by our esteemed panel of judges:
Mr. Praveen Abeysundera – Lecturer, Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya
Mr. Pasindu Weerasinghe – Head of Videography, Perabeats Media Society

Congratulations to Our Winners:
🥇1st Place – A.W.G.T.U. Ruchiranga
Highlighted the need to protect Sri Lanka’s railway ecosystems from plastic pollution, especially the iconic rail routes recognized as some of the most beautiful train journeys in the world.

🥈2nd Place – A.M.G.C.D. Jayawardhana
Showed how burning plastic can damage our health, especially by affecting our lungs and breathing.

🥉3rd Place – R.G.D.M. Samaraweera
Reminded us that plastic harms nature, but recycling can help protect the environment and reduce that damage.

All winners represented the University of Peradeniya and delivered powerful narratives that impressed both the judges and the audience.

A special thanks goes to Mr. Amayuru Senadeera, who brought energy and professionalism to the event as compere, and to the dedicated Organizing Committee for their tireless efforts behind the scenes.

EcoFrames 2025 proved that storytelling is a powerful tool for environmental advocacy, and we look forward to an even greater impact in years to come.
