The ZeroPlastic Movement established a new ZeroPlastic School Club at Ampara D. S. Senanayaka Vidyalaya on 20 May 2026. The project, titled Green Wares School Club, combined the formal launch of the club with environmental awareness and youth empowerment activities for school students at the institution.

The project was organized to provide school students with a structured platform through which they can organize, lead, and continue environmental activities within their school. By setting up a dedicated school club, the initiative aimed to support long-term, student-led environmental action rather than limiting engagement to a single event.

The central activity of the day was the establishment of the ZeroPlastic School Club at the school. Alongside the club launch, environmental awareness sessions were conducted to help school students understand the importance of reducing plastic use and protecting their environment. Youth empowerment activities were also carried out, encouraging students to take active roles in planning and carrying out environmental efforts within their school community.

School students at Ampara D. S. Senanayaka Vidyalaya participated in the day’s activities, engaging with the awareness sessions and taking part in the foundational steps of forming the new club. The establishment of the club provided the students with a clear structure for organizing future environmental projects and initiatives on their own.

The value of setting up a school club lies in its capacity to move beyond one-time awareness efforts. With a formal club in place, school students gain an ongoing mechanism to coordinate activities, share responsibilities, and build environmental awareness among their peers over time.
