Save the Shores

Save the Shores: Beach Cleanup

The “Save the Shores” project,  organized by Zero Plastic ECU in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of ECU, was a coastal clean-up held on 7th January 2026 at Mount Lavinia Beach from 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. During the activity, a total of eight bags of waste were gathered, and after the clean-up, refreshments were provided in appreciation of the participants’ hard work and dedication.  A total of 18 volunteers actively participated in the effort to reduce plastic pollution along the shoreline. Volunteers collected waste along the beach while wearing gloves for safety.

The project aimed to address the growing issue of coastal waste while raising awareness about the importance of protecting marine ecosystems. The clean-up effort also highlighted the shared responsibility of communities in adopting sustainable practices and reducing single-use plastics to foster a culture of environmental stewardship.

Every piece of trash you remove reveals something beautiful

“Save the Shores” reflects Zero Plastic ECU’s continued commitment to environmental protection and community engagement. Through collective action and collaboration, the project not only reduced plastic pollution but also inspired participants and the wider community to take proactive steps toward preserving natural habitats and ensuring cleaner shores for the future.
