The ZeroPlastic Society of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka successfully conducted a Fundraising & School Collaboration Initiative during the B-TEX Exhibition, combining environmental awareness, community engagement, and fundraising into a meaningful and impactful project.
The initiative was designed with the objective of introducing the society’s vision and environmental mission to school communities, while also creating opportunities to build long-term collaborations with schools. Through direct interaction with visiting students and teachers, the project aimed to strengthen awareness about sustainability and encourage greater participation in environmental initiatives.
Throughout the exhibition, members of the ZeroPlastic Society actively engaged with school students and teachers, sharing information about the society’s projects and environmental goals. Valuable contact details and information were collected from teachers to explore future partnerships and expand environmental awareness programs at the school level. These interactions helped strengthen the relationship between the university community and schools, opening pathways for future collaborative projects.
As part of the initiative, the team also organized a fundraising stall that featured a variety of affordable and attractive items, including bookmarks, fresh drinks, and mango pickles. The stall quickly became a lively and engaging attraction within the exhibition, drawing the attention of many visitors, particularly school students.
The initiative not only succeeded in raising funds for future activities, but also played an important role in increasing environmental awareness and promoting the values of sustainability among young participants. In addition, the project provided valuable opportunities for volunteers to develop their teamwork, communication, and organizational skills through practical experience.
