Dhamma School Awareness Program Successfully Conducted at Siri Yapagiri Buddhist Center

The Dhamma School Awareness Program was successfully conducted on 26.04.2026 at Siri Yapagiri Buddhist Center, Werakawila, Palolpitiya, with the participation of nearly 150 attendees, including Dhamma school students and parents. The program was organized to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic pollution and the importance of protecting the environment through sustainable practices.

The awareness session was held from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. in an interactive and engaging manner. Students and parents were educated about how plastic waste damages the environment, affects wildlife and human health, and spreads through daily human activities. The session also focused on simple and practical ways to reduce plastic usage and promote environmentally friendly habits in daily life.

Several educational activities and interactive games were conducted during the program to encourage active participation among the students. The participants enthusiastically engaged in the awareness activities, making the session both meaningful and enjoyable. Eco-friendly pens were distributed among the students to encourage sustainable practices and environmental responsibility.

As a special activity of the program, a tree planting activity was conducted together with the Nayaka Thero of the temple. This activity highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and inspired students to take responsibility for protecting nature.

The project was successfully organized with the support and dedication of 25 ZeroPlastic volunteers who actively contributed to planning and conducting the awareness session.

Overall, the program was successfully completed and created positive environmental awareness among students and parents while encouraging the community to move towards a cleaner and greener future.

Introducing the ZeroPlastic Commitment Standard – the world’s first certification focused solely on refusing and reducing single-use plastics.
