The “LeafLine” School Awareness Series – Phase 1.1 was successfully conducted at Kolambaruwana School, Kamburupitiya on 28th April 2026 by the volunteers of the ZeroPlastic Club, University of Ruhuna. The program was organized with the objective of educating school students about the harmful effects of single use plastics and encouraging environmentally friendly habits among the younger generation.
The awareness session was conducted within one hour in an interactive and engaging manner. During the program, students were educated about the environmental damage caused by single-use plastics and the importance of reducing plastic usage in daily life by using sustainable alternatives and responsible practices. The session also focused on motivating students to protect the environment through simple individual actions.
To make the program more enjoyable and educational, several interactive activities, games, and question-and-answer sessions were conducted with the participation of the students. The students actively engaged with the presenters and enthusiastically answered environmental awareness questions. Stationery items were presented to students who answered correctly as a way of encouraging participation and appreciation.
The program was successfully completed with the active contribution and teamwork of the participating volunteers: H.K.G.S. Dulari Senavirathna,B.K. Thakshila Sewwandi, J.K.T. Dilshika, G.B.P.J. Lakmali, G.A.V. Nimsari, Matheesha S.M. Sandeepana, R.D.R. Pramodya, H.N.P. Hewapathage, D.M.T. Sanjeewa, B.A.C.W. Maduwantha.
Overall, the “LeafLine” School Awareness Series – Phase 1.1 was successfully conducted as a meaningful environmental awareness program that created a positive learning experience for the students while inspiring them to reduce singleuse plastic usage and protect the environment for future generations.
