ZeroPlastic University of Peradeniya Inspires the Next Generation of Leaders
The University of Peradeniya came alive with energy and purpose as ZeroPlastic successfully hosted the “Know the Way: Own the Way” orientation program for the newly enrolled 23 batch students of the Faculty of Arts at the Arts Theater. Organized under the Membership Development Avenue, this initiative was designed to welcome, inspire, and guide new students toward a meaningful university journey — one rooted in purpose, leadership, and sustainability.
The event set the stage for an exciting beginning. Nimesh Karunasinghe, Vice President of ZeroPlastic University of Peradeniya, opened the session by sharing the organization’s long-term vision — empowering youth to become sustainability leaders who drive social and environmental change. His message encouraged students to see university life not just as an academic chapter, but as a launching pad for community impact.
Amayuru Senadheera, Team Leader of the Voicing Team, took the audience on an empowering journey through self-expression and advocacy. His session motivated students to find their voice, embrace opportunities, and become changemakers who influence both their campuses and communities.
Adding depth to the session, Chamodi Nishshanka, Director of Membership Development, spoke about the pillars of leadership, teamwork, and volunteerism that define the ZeroPlastic culture. Her words reminded students that true growth happens when they step up, collaborate, and contribute to something larger than themselves.
Sarachchandran Shakthidaran, Deputy Director of Membership Development, further reinforced this vision by outlining the many pathways ZeroPlastic offers — from project management and skill development to community engagement and environmental advocacy.
The orientation was more than just an introduction; it was a spark of inspiration. It marked the beginning of a journey where young individuals will evolve into responsible, compassionate, and capable leaders.
With this initiative, ZeroPlastic University of Peradeniya once again demonstrated its commitment to nurturing youth who not only “know the way” but are ready to own the way forward — leading the movement against plastic pollution and shaping a sustainable future for all.
