We 🇱🇰 are honored to share that ZeroPlastic Movement has been featured in the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative: Annual Progress Report 2024, released by UN Tourism.

As a Signatory Body to the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative in Sri Lanka, ZeroPlastic Movement has been working tirelessly to reduce plastic waste in the travel and tourism sector. Being recognized in this prestigious global report is a proud milestone in our journey toward environmental sustainability.
Recognizing Impact Through Collaboration
Over the past year, ZeroPlastic Movement has partnered with key stakeholders in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry — including tour operators, accommodation providers, local authorities, and grassroots organizations — to help reduce the sector’s plastic footprint.
Through these collaborations, we’ve supported practical changes and raised awareness around plastic reduction in day-to-day tourism operations. We are thrilled that the collective impact of these actions is now reflected in the official UN Tourism progress report, contributing to improved global SDG and sustainability reporting.
Moving Forward with Global Support
We are currently working very closely with UN Tourism to further promote plastic reduction across the Sri Lankan tourism sector. As part of this collaboration, we have already begun rolling out the ZeroPlastic Commitment Standard with a few carefully selected partners.
This locally developed standard aligns with global best practices and is designed to help tourism organizations assess, implement, and showcase their plastic reduction efforts in a credible and measurable way.
To Our Partners — Thank You!
To every travel and tourism partner who has joined hands with us — thank you. Your commitment to change is now being recognized at the international level. Every initiative, big or small, is now part of a global movement to build a more sustainable, plastic-free future for tourism.
