PenBin Love 2.0

As a key initiative under the Penbin Love 2.0 project, the SIBA Campus Zero Plastic Society successfully installed a dedicated penbin (collection box) in the examination hall premises of SIBA Campus. This effort was carried out with the participation of 30 student volunteers, under the guidance and encouragement of the Rector of SIBA Campus, Dr. Upali M. Sedare, along with the senior management and lecturers who continuously supported the project.

The examination hall was chosen as a strategic location because it is one of the most frequently used spaces on campus, where students often bring multiple pens during exams. By placing the penbin there, the project aimed to create both convenience and awareness, making it easier for students to contribute to reducing plastic waste by depositing their used pens responsibly.

The response was remarkable. During and after the examination sessions, a large number of students placed their used pens into the bin, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable practices and their willingness to take part in the Zero Plastic movement. What started as a small idea soon became a collective action, showing that students are ready to support environmental responsibility when given the right opportunity.

This installation was more than just placing a collection box. It symbolized a culture of responsibility and set an example of how simple, practical steps can influence a wider community. The project also highlighted the importance of leadership and teamwork. The volunteers played a vital role in planning, organizing, and spreading awareness, while the senior management and lecturers provided strong guidance that ensured the project’s success.

The Penbin Love 2.0 project continues to remind us that sustainability begins with small, thoughtful actions. The penbin in the examination hall is not only a collection point for used pens but also a symbol of the collective strength of the SIBA Campus community—students, lecturers, and management—working together toward a greener, plastic-free future.
