Inside lecture hall Z0725 at the University of Moratuwa, a group of students sat forward in their chairs as Dr. Ruchira Wijesena posed a simple but disarming question: what does your professional presence say about you before you ever speak a word? The session, held on 4th May 2026, was called ElevateU, and it was organized under the Professional Development Avenue of the Zero Plastic NDT Club at the University of Moratuwa, a student-led club operating within the broader ZeroPlastic Movement. While the movement is widely recognized for its environmental conservation and plastic pollution reduction initiatives, its campus clubs also invest in building well-rounded individuals who can lead change in any professional setting. ElevateU reflected that broader mission by turning attention inward, toward the students themselves.
A Different Kind of Development
Dr. Wijesena, a Senior Lecturer at ITUM, guided participants through a session that covered personality development, confidence building, and self-improvement strategies tailored to university students preparing to step into competitive professional environments.
