Empowering Kegalle Artisans for a Plastic-Free Future

The ZeroPlastic Movement successfully concluded the Kegalle District Artisan Meetup on 20th January 2026, held from 9.00 AM to 1.30 PM at the YMBA Building, Kegalle, marking another meaningful step in strengthening Sri Lanka’s plastic-alternative and artisan-led economy.

The meetup brought together talented artisans, craftsmen, and micro and small entrepreneurs from across the Kegalle District for open, solution-focused discussions on the real challenges they face—limited market access, strong competition from low-cost plastic alternatives, and difficulties in securing fair and timely income.

More than a discussion forum, the session served as a curated product evaluation and selection platform, allowing the ZeroPlastic team to identify high-quality, market-ready plastic-alternative products and promising SMEs with strong potential for growth. The creativity, craftsmanship, and commitment displayed by participants once again highlighted the untapped strength of local, sustainable industries.

Selected artisans and SMEs will now move forward to receive structured, end-to-end support through the ZeroPlastic Impact Center, including improved market access, enhanced product visibility, and guidance to scale sustainably—while preserving traditional skills, ethical values, and environmental responsibility.

The strong participation and meaningful engagement at the Kegalle District Artisan Meetup reaffirmed the importance of investing in community-driven solutions to reduce plastic dependency and build inclusive, long-term impact.

We look forward to continuing this journey with the Kegalle artisan community and working together to create sustainable livelihoods and a plastic-free future.
