The  project was reintroduced through an awareness event held at the Faculty of Agriculture’s first-year lecture hall. The project aims to reduce the use of plastic within the university community and encourage the use of sustainable alternatives.

The event was organized under the leadership of Project Heads Dasuni Sankalpana Wijesiri and Pakeetharan, who also serves as the Director of Membership. The coordinators of the event were Pubuduu Abeyarathna, Hansani Kawshalya, and Pasandi Dharmapala, with Dinithi Adhikari and Sehara Sandamini supporting as Directors of Marketing. Faculty coordinators from the FLFN and FAPM faculties also contributed to organizing the session.

Current and future plans were introduced, and the audience was shown a series of past project videos, including:

Pen Bin Love Project

The team also presented a short story that highlighted the environmental impact of plastic pollution.

Mr. Gihani Chalithya, the former president of the Zero Plastic community, attended the event as the chief guest. He shared his experiences and thoughts on previous projects, which helped participants understand the background and progress of the initiative.

First-year students from both FLFN and FAPM faculties attended the session and learned about the aims of the Zero Plastic Wayamba project and how they can be part of it.

As a token of appreciation, eco-friendly pens were given to former Board of Directors members. At the end of the event, President Sudarshan delivered the vote of thanks and invited students to join the Zero Plastic Wayamba WhatsApp group by scanning a QR code.

The project team emphasized that their main objective is to gradually reduce plastic use on campus and promote better alternatives where possible.
