Bamboo Bloom 2.0

n celebration of World Environment Day 2025, the ZeroPlastic NDT Club organized a meaningful environmental initiative — “Bamboo Bloom 2.0”, a bamboo tree planting project held on 7th of June at the Kelani River Bank in Hanwella. The event brought together students, environmentalists, and community members to take direct action toward ecological restoration and sustainability.

Bamboo trees were chosen for their fast growth, ability to prevent soil erosion, and remarkable capacity to absorb carbon dioxide. By planting bamboo along the riverbank, the project aimed to support natural waterway protection while contributing to long-term climate resilience.

This event would not have been possible without the support of the Seethawaka Municipal Council, who arranged and prepared the site, and the generous contribution of MAS Active Division, who provided all the bamboo saplings for planting.

Volunteers from the ZeroPlastic NDT Club and the local community gathered early in the morning, energized by a shared purpose. Throughout the day, dozens of bamboo trees were planted along the banks of the Kelani River — a small but powerful step in rebuilding a healthy environment for future generations.

The event also included awareness sessions on the importance of eco-friendly practices and the role of individuals in protecting the environment. Participants were encouraged to reduce plastic use, promote biodiversity, and spread the message of sustainability.

“Bamboo Bloom 2.0” symbolized more than just a tree-planting effort — it was a reminder that when communities come together with intention, meaningful change is possible.
