The ZeroPlastic club at Wayamba University organized the project titled “Seeds of Change: Green Roots for a Better Future” at Sri Sumangala Dhamma School in Kurundankulama. The programme combined environmental awareness with hands-on activity by engaging Dhamma school students in learning about environmental conservation and distributing tree saplings as part of the initiative.

The project was organized to connect environmental education with practical action among young learners. By bringing tree planting and awareness activities into a school setting, the ZeroPlastic club aimed to encourage a sense of environmental responsibility among children and the wider school community.

During the programme, ZeroPlastic volunteers carried out awareness activities with Dhamma school students and facilitated the donation of tree saplings. The activities were designed to help young learners understand the importance of trees and environmental care through direct participation rather than instruction alone. The programme brought together Dhamma school students, their teachers, university volunteers, and community members in a shared effort centered on environmental conservation.

The engagement of multiple groups reflected the collaborative nature of the project. Dhamma school students took part in the activities alongside their teachers, while ZeroPlastic volunteers from the university coordinated and supported the programme. Community members also participated, broadening the reach of the initiative beyond the school itself.
