ZeroPlastic Club of University of Ruhuna Conducts ENVIORA 2026 Virtual Environmental Awareness Programme

ENVIORA 2026, a virtual environmental awareness programme organized by the ZeroPlastic Club of the University of Ruhuna, brought together university volunteers and members of the public for a series of online sessions focused on plastic pollution, sustainable lifestyles, and responsible environmental practices. The programme was delivered through interactive Zoom sessions featuring professionals and sustainability advocates working in the environmental sector.

A Programme Built Around Professional Knowledge Sharing

ENVIORA 2026 was designed as a three-session programme, each led by a different resource person. The first session, titled “Lead the Change: Building Character in a Plastic-Filled World,” was scheduled to be conducted by Mr. Remon Ellegala but was postponed due to unavoidable personal circumstances faced by the resource person. The remaining two sessions were conducted successfully with participation from university volunteers and members of the wider public.

Practical Perspectives on Plastic Reduction and Sustainability Leadership

The second session, “Plastic Free, Planet Friendly,” was conducted by Mr. Vichakshana Praveen Peiris, Owner of Agra Home and Event Designers. The session focused on reducing plastic consumption, adopting environmentally friendly alternatives, and incorporating sustainable practices into daily life. The discussion addressed the role of individual responsibility in minimizing environmental pollution and protecting natural resources.

The third session, “Beyond the Degree – Lead Sustainability,” was conducted by Mr. Nimesh Senarathna, Executive Officer of Eco Spindles (Private) Limited.
