The Drops of Change – World Water Day Symposium 2026, organized by the ZeroPlastic Community, marked a significant step toward promoting sustainable water management and environmental awareness. The initiative brought together multiple institutions and stakeholders under a shared vision of protecting water resources for future generations.
This impactful project was carried out in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science, Institute of Biology Sri Lanka, and the Zoonet Society, while being proudly powered by AIA Insurance. The strength of this collaboration transformed the initiative from a standard awareness program into a dynamic knowledge-sharing platform.
A key highlight of the project was the World Water Day Symposium, which brought together a diverse audience including international and government officials, NGO representatives, researchers, academics, and university students. The event created a space for meaningful dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaborative thinking around critical water-related challenges.
The symposium covered a broad range of pressing environmental and technological themes,
Coastal and marine contamination
Health impacts on humans and wildlife
Pollution in urban waterways
Artificial intelligence and smart water technology
Wastewater treatment systems and innovations
Water laws and policy frameworks (both global and Sri Lankan)
Through expert-led discussions, the symposium explored practical solutions, innovative approaches, and policy-level strategies required to address water-related issues effectively. The event emphasized the importance of integrating science, technology, and governance in achieving sustainable water management.
