An Expert Session on Environmental Conservation & Waste Management

Environmental Conservation and Waste Management Session Inspires Future Environmental Leaders at the University of Kelaniya

The ZeroPlastic Movement of the University of Kelaniya successfully organized an expert session on Environmental Conservation and Waste Management to increase awareness and knowledge among university students about environmental protection and sustainable waste management practices.

The session mainly targeted students who study Environmental Conservation and Waste Management related degree programs. The program aimed to share practical knowledge and real experiences in the field of environmental protection, helping students understand current environmental challenges and the importance of responsible waste management.

The keynote speaker of the session was Mr. Maheshkumar Maradiya, Assistant Professor at LJ University Ahmedabad and Founder and Director of Aura Environmental Services Pvt. Ltd. During the session, he shared valuable insights on environmental conservation, practical waste management methods, and strategies to reduce plastic pollution. His presentation provided students with a clear understanding of real world environmental practices and the role they can play in protecting the environment.

The project was organized by the ZeroPlastic Movement with the support of a dedicated organizing committee. The organizing committee was led by OC Chair Binowin Alles. The event coordination was managed by Nimesha Sewwandi, while Bhagya Karunarathna served as the Delegate Coordinator. Public relations activities were handled by Nuwan Sampath and financial coordination was managed by Shashini Ayodya. In addition, 33 volunteers actively contributed to the success of the program through their support in planning and implementation.

Around 50 students participated in the session and benefited from the knowledge sharing opportunity. The program created a valuable platform for students to learn from an experienced professional and gain a better understanding of environmental conservation and sustainable waste management practices.

The session also highlighted the ongoing efforts of the ZeroPlastic Movement to reduce plastic pollution and promote environmentally responsible behavior within the university community. Through educational programs and awareness activities, the movement continues to encourage students to take active roles in protecting the environment.

This initiative reflects the commitment of the ZeroPlastic Movement and its volunteers to build a more environmentally responsible generation and support sustainable practices within the university and beyond.
