The ZeroPlastic Community of the Open University of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the ZeroPlastic Community of NIBM, successfully carried out the “Waves Without Waste” Beach Cleanup Project on 22nd August 2025 at Wallawatta Beach.
With the joining hands of international volunteers, this initiative became a true symbol of unity and shared responsibility. Local and foreign participants worked side by side in small teams, equipped with gloves and garbage bags, to remove waste that did not belong to the beach environment.
The project not only contributed to restoring the coastal ecosystem but also created a platform for cross-cultural collaboration, environmental awareness, and community engagement. Safety was prioritized, teamwork was encouraged, and everyone united under one mission—to make a difference for the planet.
The event concluded with refreshments, fellowship, and a group photograph, celebrating the spirit of togetherness and volunteerism.
“Waves Without Waste” is proof that when communities and international friends join hands, we can protect nature and build a cleaner, greener future.
