PenBin Love, the second project organized by ZeroPlastic Kingswood College, unfolded on September 29, 2025, at Kingswood College with the collaborative support of ZeroPlastic University of Peradeniya. This meaningful initiative centered on the unique concept introduced by the ZeroPlastic Movement, giving life to a “dead” pen. Instead of letting used pens contribute to plastic waste, PenBin Love promotes collecting empty pens, refilling them with ink, and redistributing them to rural schoolchildren who need them most. The project beautifully blended sustainability, creativity, and compassion.
The gentlemen of Kingswood College took remarkable ownership of the initiative. In an inspiring display of responsibility and innovation, they created their own PenBin from scratch, choosing not to wait for the movement to provide one. This effort showcased not only environmental commitment but also true Kingswood leadership and ingenuity. Their ability to take initiative reflected the spirit of the ZeroPlastic mission, empowering youth to create change with the resources they have.
The event was organized by the ZeroPlastic Kingswood College Executive Committee alongside these young organizers, ZeroPlastic University of Peradeniya volunteers and EXCO members joined hands to support and guide the initiative. Combined, the event brought together around 75 participants, all united by a shared purpose of environmental care and social upliftment.
PenBin Love stands as a powerful reflection of how small acts, like collecting used pens, can create meaningful impact. Through this thoughtful and well-executed project, Kingswood College demonstrated its dedication to sustainability, community service, and youth-led innovation, solidifying its growing presence within the ZeroPlastic movement.
