Penbin Love – CRC Library By Open University Of Sri Lanka

The PenBinLove project continues to grow as a simple yet impactful environmental initiative carried out by the ZeroPlastic Community. Designed to encourage responsible waste management and promote recycling habits among students, the project focuses on collecting and properly disposing of used pens that would otherwise contribute to plastic pollution.

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, the community has already successfully installed PenBins across all nine regional centers of the The Open University of Sri Lanka. Expanding this initiative further, an additional PenBin was installed at the Library of the Open University of Sri Lanka Colombo Regional Centre.

The installation event was supported by the library staff and the librarian, who actively participated in the initiative. University students also showed great enthusiasm and engagement, demonstrating their commitment to environmentally responsible practices on campus.

The PenBinLove initiative aims to raise awareness about the often-overlooked plastic waste generated from everyday stationery items such as pens. By providing a designated collection point, the project encourages students and staff to adopt sustainable habits while reducing plastic waste within the university environment.

With the successful expansion of the PenBinLove project, the ZeroPlastic Community hopes to motivate new volunteers and encourage the development of even more impactful environmental initiatives in the months ahead, continuing their mission of building a cleaner and more sustainable campus community.
