*Empowering Youth for a Greener Tomorrow: Orientation Programme 2025 by ZeroPlastic Community – OUSL*
On the 19th of August 2025, the ZeroPlastic Community of The Open University of Sri Lanka proudly conducted its *Orientation Programme 2025*, marking the beginning of a transformative journey for its newest members. Held online, the session brought together passionate individuals with a shared mission of driving environmental change across the nation.
The event commenced with words of encouragement and vision from the university’s top administration, including the Vice Chancellor and Registrar. Their support reaffirmed the university’s strong commitment to sustainability and student-led initiatives.
A major highlight of the programme was the inspiring presence of Mr. Nishshanka De Silva, the Founder of the ZeroPlastic Movement. His motivational address shed light on the movement’s roots, evolution, and the crucial role youth play in shaping a plastic-free future.
Further, valuable insights were shared by the ZeroPlastic Community’s university advisors — Mrs. Uthpala Jayawardena, — who emphasized the importance of advocacy, leadership, and consistent action.
The session also introduced the structure of the ZeroPlastic movement, both nationally and within the university.
The Orientation Programme concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and unity, empowering all participants to become agents of change within their communities.
*Together, we rise — for a cleaner, greener Sri Lanka.*
