Inspiring Young Minds at Koramburuwana Maha Vidyalaya

The ZeroPlastic Club of the University of Ruhuna launched the special awareness program, “Way To Eco Generation – School Awareness Programme (Phase 03.7)”, at Koramburuwana Maha Vidyalaya on November 7, 2025. The initiative aimed to educate young students on the harmful effects of plastic and polythene and to inspire them to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.

The program combined interactive discussions, visual presentations, and open Q&A sessions to illustrate the environmental and societal disadvantages of plastic use. Students were encouraged to think critically about their own habits and how small changes could positively impact their families, schools, and communities. A particularly motivating highlight was the distribution of prizes to five students who answered questions correctly, reinforcing participation and sparking curiosity among their peers.

The session concluded with a heartfelt speech from the school principal and a vote of thanks delivered by the Deputy Project Head of the ZeroPlastic Club, emphasizing the importance of environmental responsibility and continued engagement.

This initiative successfully laid a strong foundation for environmental awareness among young learners, empowering them to become ambassadors of sustainability within their schools and communities. Through interactive education and hands-on participation, the ZeroPlastic Club continues to cultivate the next generation of environmentally conscious citizens.

Introducing the ZeroPlastic Commitment Standard – the world’s first certification focused solely on refusing and reducing single-use plastics.
