GreenHands @ Pera | Uniting the Community for a Cleaner, Greener Campus

ZeroPlastic University of Peradeniya successfully carried out Green Hands @ Pera,a hands on environmental cleanup initiative focused on reducing plastic pollution and protecting the natural beauty of the University. The project emphasized how collective action and responsible waste management can significantly improve environmental health and ensure a greener future for the campus community.

With the support of the Bank of Ceylon as the Official Sponsor and Fire Plate Restaurant as the Bronze Sponsor, volunteers gathered to clean the areas around Galaha Junction, removing improperly discarded plastic waste and raising awareness about sustainable waste practices. The initiative highlighted how everyday plastic items, when mismanaged, contribute to environmental degradation and disrupt the ecological balance of the campus.

More than 80 dedicated participants joined the project, contributing their energy and commitment to creating visible, positive change. Through teamwork and shared responsibility, Green Hands @ Pera showcased the power of student led action in promoting sustainability and environmental protection.

The cleanup efforts and key moments of the project were professionally captured by Neera Photolab, ensuring that the impact and spirit of the initiative were documented with clarity and quality.
