ECO 7 – 7 Days Without Plastic Social Media Awareness Campaign

The ECO 7 – 7 Days Without Plastic project was a successful environmental awareness campaign organized by the ZeroPlastic Club, University of Ruhuna. The project aimed to educate the community about the harmful effects of plastic pollution and motivate people to reduce their use of single-use plastics in daily life.

The campaign was conducted over seven days, from 23th of February to 1st March 2026, using social media platforms to maximize outreach. Each day focused on a specific theme to engage the audience:

1. Plastic Awareness: Educating participants about daily plastic consumption.
2. Refuse Single-Use Plastics: Encouraging alternatives like reusable bags and bottles.
3. Reuse Practices: Sharing tips to creatively reuse items instead of disposing of them.
4. Eco-Friendly Alternatives: Promoting sustainable substitutes for common plastic products.
5. Waste Segregation: Highlighting the importance of separating plastics for recycling.
6. Inspire Others: Encouraging participants to share their plastic-free experiences.
7. Plastic-Free Commitment: Motivating participants to pledge reducing plastic in daily life.

Throughout the campaign, engaging content such as posters, videos, reels, and social media challenges were shared daily. Community members, students, and environmental enthusiasts actively participated by liking, sharing, and commenting on posts. This interaction helped the campaign reach a wider audience and strengthened public awareness about the importance of reducing plastic pollution.

The project was successfully completed, with posts widely shared across social media. The positive response and engagement from university students and the general community provided encouragement and support to continue similar environmental initiatives in the future.

Introducing the ZeroPlastic Commitment Standard – the world’s first certification focused solely on refusing and reducing single-use plastics.
