On 10th January 2025, the Makandura Premises of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka came alive with purpose and pride as the ZeroPlastic Awards Ceremony 2025 unfolded; an evening dedicated to celebrating action, innovation, and leadership in the journey toward a plastic-free future.
Organized as part of the ZeroPlastic Movement’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility, the ceremony recognized individuals, teams, and initiatives within the university community who have gone beyond awareness to create real, measurable impact. From reducing single-use plastics to inspiring behavioral change, each award told a story of responsibility turned into action.
Throughout the evening, the atmosphere was one of shared purpose. Award recipients were not only recognized for their achievements but also celebrated as role model, proof that environmental leadership can begin at the individual level and grow into collective movement. The ceremony reinforced a powerful message: sustainability is not a distant goal, but a series of conscious choices made every day.
