A New Step Toward a Sustainable Tomorrow at Kamburupitiya Maha Vidyalaya

On October 8, 2025, the ZeroPlastic Club of the University of Ruhuna took another significant stride in shaping a sustainable future through its “Way to Eco Generation – School Awareness Programme.” This session, held at Kamburupitiya Maha Vidyalaya, aimed to educate young students on the environmental challenges posed by plastic and polythene waste — and how small, conscious actions can lead to lasting change.

The program began at noon with the warm support of the school principal and teaching staff, setting the tone for an inspiring afternoon of learning and engagement. A passionate organizing team — including a Project Head, Project Manager, Secretary, Event Coordinator, Graphic Designer, Photographer, and several volunteers — ensured that every detail was handled with care and enthusiasm.

Through interactive discussions, visual presentations, and Q&A sessions, students explored the dangers of plastic pollution and the importance of adopting eco-friendly alternatives in daily life. Their active participation and curiosity made the session both educational and memorable.

A highlight of the event was the recognition of five students who stood out for their enthusiasm and thoughtful contributions. Each received a beautifully designed notebook sponsored by Yapa Hardware and Electricals — a small but meaningful reward symbolizing the power of awareness and action.

The event concluded with heartfelt remarks from the school’s vice principal, followed by a vote of thanks from the Project Head, expressing deep appreciation to all who made the initiative possible.

By empowering students with knowledge and motivation, the ZeroPlastic Club continues to cultivate a new generation of environmentally responsible citizens — proving that the journey toward a sustainable tomorrow begins in the classroom.

Introducing the ZeroPlastic Commitment Standard – the world’s first certification focused solely on refusing and reducing single-use plastics.
