ZeroPlastic University of Peradeniya launched HORIZON 2026, a program aimed at promoting environmental awareness and encouraging practical steps toward reducing plastic usage. The event was held on 21st August 2026 at the Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya, and was organized by the university’s ZeroPlastic club as part of its ongoing efforts to engage young volunteers in environmental responsibility.

The program was designed to introduce the 2024 Batch to the objectives and values of the ZeroPlastic movement and to encourage participants to adopt eco-friendly habits in their daily lives. HORIZON 2026 aimed to build awareness around the issue of plastic pollution and to highlight the role that individuals can play in reducing plastic consumption within the university community and beyond.

The event brought together 410 university volunteers from the 2024 Batch at the Faculty of Arts. The program was conducted in Tamil medium to ensure clear communication and accessibility for all participants. During the session, attendees were introduced to the long-term vision of the ZeroPlastic movement, its core values, and the practical approaches individuals can take to minimize plastic use. The program focused on encouraging participants to consider their own daily habits and to identify ways they could contribute to reducing plastic waste.

Participation across the event was strong, with volunteers actively engaging with the content presented during the program.
