ZeroPlastic CINEC Campus Launches Beat the Bite Dengue Prevention Cleanup

ZeroPlastic CINEC Campus carried out Beat the Bite – Phase 1, a dengue prevention and environmental cleanup initiative conducted on the CINEC Campus premises. The project brought together ZeroPlastic volunteers and campus cleaning staff to address waste accumulation and reduce potential mosquito breeding sites across the campus grounds.

The initiative was organized in response to the ongoing public health concern surrounding dengue, with a particular focus on eliminating conditions that allow mosquitoes to breed. By combining dengue prevention efforts with an environmental cleanup, the project aimed to promote both public health awareness and responsible waste management within the campus community.

During the activity, ZeroPlastic volunteers worked alongside the campus cleaning staff to collect waste, remove discarded plastic items, and inspect the premises for stagnant water and other conditions that could serve as mosquito breeding grounds. Teams moved through different areas of the campus, clearing debris and ensuring that commonly overlooked spots were cleaned and checked. The hands-on nature of the work allowed participants to directly engage with both the environmental and health dimensions of the project.

The collaborative effort between ZeroPlastic volunteers and the cleaning staff demonstrated a practical model of teamwork and shared responsibility. By working together, both groups were able to cover a wider area of the campus and carry out a more thorough cleanup than either group might have achieved independently. The activity also provided volunteers with a direct understanding of how waste accumulation, particularly discarded plastic items, can contribute to public health risks such as dengue.

The project served a dual purpose within the campus setting. On one hand, it contributed to maintaining cleaner surroundings by removing waste and plastic refuse. On the other, it addressed a tangible health concern by targeting potential dengue breeding s…
