The “හරිත පැංචෝ” Environmental Awareness Program was successfully conducted by the ZeroPlastic Community of Sabaragamuwa University at Sarasavi Preschool. The initiative aimed to educate young children about environmental protection and reducing plastic waste through engaging and interactive learning experiences.
The program introduced children to important environmental concepts such as Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, using simple and enjoyable methods tailored to their age. A variety of hands-on activities were organized to ensure that learning was both fun and meaningful.
Among the highlights was a waste sorting game, which helped children understand how to separate different types of waste. A creative tree decoration activity encouraged appreciation for nature, while a plastic bottle reuse activity for planting demonstrated how everyday items can be repurposed in eco-friendly ways. In addition, a storytelling session captured the children’s attention and reinforced key messages about caring for the environment.
With the strong support of the preschool staff and the dedication of the organizing team, the program was carried out successfully. The children showed great enthusiasm and curiosity, actively participating in all activities and absorbing the lessons shared.
Through simple yet impactful activities, the project demonstrates how early education can play a vital role in shaping a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.
