*Clean Sweep 2025 – A Collective Step Toward a Cleaner Tomorrow*

On the 8th of July 2025, the *ZeroPlastic Community of The Open University of Sri Lanka* marked another impactful milestone through its *Clean Sweep* project held at the *Pallekele International Cricket Stadium*, Kandy. This post-match cleanup initiative followed the Sri Lanka vs. Bangladesh cricket match and aimed to restore cleanliness while fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

A dedicated team of over 50 student volunteers from various regional centers participated in this large-scale effort. With gloves on and bags in hand, the volunteers systematically collected litter—mostly plastic packaging, bottles, and wrappers—left behind by spectators. The waste was carefully segregated to facilitate recycling and reduce environmental harm.

Beyond just a cleanup, *Clean Sweep* was an awareness movement. The presence of ZeroPlastic volunteers in action sparked conversations with the public about plastic pollution and civic responsibility. Many passersby appreciated the effort, while some even joined hands in support.
The event also served as a platform to strengthen team spirit, youth leadership, and commitment to sustainability. It reflected ZeroPlastic OUSL’s ongoing commitment to reducing plastic pollution and encouraging mindful behavior at public events.

*Clean Sweep 2025* was not just a success in numbers—it was a reminder that small acts, when done together, can create ripples of change.

Introducing the ZeroPlastic Commitment Standard – the world’s first certification focused solely on refusing and reducing single-use plastics.
