Rakagamu Senkadagala – Dalada Vandana Cleanup Project
On 25th March, the Zero Plastic Community of SIBA Campus proudly organized the Rakagamu Senkadagala – Dalada Vandana Cleanup Project at Katugasthota. This initiative was launched with the goal of promoting a cleaner and greener environment for all who visit sacred sites during Dalada Vandana activities.
The project gathered 45 dedicated volunteers, including 17 members of the Zero Plastic Community and SIBA Campus staff. Together, they made a tremendous impact by collecting 12 large garbage bags full of plastic bottles, wrappers, and other non-biodegradable waste from the area. This effort not only improved the cleanliness of the surroundings but also promoted greater awareness about environmental responsibility among the local community.
The primary aim of this project was to support the Dalada Vandana pilgrimage by helping maintain a cleaner environment in the city of Kandy, especially around sacred and busy public areas. Through this project, we hoped to inspire others to respect and protect these important places by minimizing plastic pollution and adopting sustainable habits.
This successful initiative was led by a passionate and hardworking Organizing Committee:
