The ZeroPlastic Club of NIBM successfully launched its latest journey towards sustainability with a highly engaging Orientation Programme, marking a renewed commitment to environmental responsibility and youth-driven change.
The event brought together over 30 enthusiastic participants who joined the movement as volunteers, known as “අපි for Earth.” The session introduced the vision, mission, and long-term goals of the initiative, while inspiring students to take meaningful action beyond conventional environmental practices.
A key highlight of the programme was the focus on redefining sustainability going beyond simple waste collection to promote innovation, awareness, and behavioral change among the younger generation.
The orientation was further enriched by special guest sessions featuring the founder of the ZeroPlastic Movement and two past presidents. The founder and one past president joined virtually via Zoom, sharing their experiences and insights, motivating participants to become active changemakers.
Adding an interactive element, a fun session was conducted through Slido, where participants actively engaged, and gifts were awarded to the top two winners.
The success of the event was driven by a dedicated Organizing Committee (OC):
•Geena Wonara – Project Head
•Ravindya Nethmini – Event Coordinator
•Joseph Danishiyan – Event Coordinator
•Navod Jayawardana – Delegate Coordinator
•Sajani De Silva – Delegate Coordinator
•Chaniru Fernando – PR Coordinator
•Sadeepa Dilukshi – Social Media & Content Coordinator
•Asheni Niwarthana – Social Media & Content Coordinator
•Harith Perera – Photographer/Videographer
Their teamwork ensured a well-organized and inspiring programme that set the tone for future initiatives.
With a passionate new batch of volunteers onboard, the orientation stands as a powerful reminder that collective effort can drive meaningful and lasting environmental impact.
